Resident Blogs Street Crime in Cry for Help
An Oakland resident has been driven to start an illustrated website and blog documenting "the problems of living in Oakland."
In particular, this resident of the Dimond district reports, "I need some help in having a car removed and I am running out of ideas. We called the police several months ago regarding the vehicle, sent emails to the abandoned vehicle abatement program and have even asked Jean Quan's office for help, but nothing has worked."
In addition to the abandoned car, the resident has to put up with persistent liquor and drug trash, open drug dealing, and graffiti.

Oakland has half a police department. The city council, instead of committing to a solid plan to get the 1,100 officers we need, keeps coming to voters with new parcel taxes and more bond measures for the council's pet projects. Most recently, voters rejected a 42 percent increase in the so-called landscape and lighting tax that did little for parks and street lights. Now the council, eager to build a palace library, wants taxes for a bond issue of almost $150 million on the November ballot.
The first job of City government is public safety. Could the picture be any more clear?
